Electronic Toll Payment in Portugal

If you are planning to explore Portugal by car, you may use toll roads during your trip, particularly if you decide to travel outside the Algarve. To make this process easier, Nice Rent vehicles are equipped with a VIA VERDE electronic device, which automatically registers your passage through electronic tolls in Portugal and can also be used at car parks that participate in the service.

This means you do not need to stop to make payments at electronic tolls or look for alternative payment methods at participating car parks. Usage is recorded throughout the rental period, and the corresponding charges are subsequently debited from the card used as a guarantee, together with the applicable administrative fee.

How are tolls charged?

Nice Rent vehicles are equipped with an electronic VIA VERDE device, which automatically registers your passage through electronic tolls in Portugal and can also be used at car parks that participate in the service.

The service is subscribed to at the start of the rental, when the vehicle is collected. Toll and parking charges are debited from the card used as a guarantee within 15 days of the end of the rental agreement, together with a €5 administrative fee.

Why use VIA VERDE when renting a car?

The Via Verde service allows you to travel with greater convenience, avoiding manual payments at electronic tolls and making it easier to park at participating car parks during your trip.
